Talk Story: An American Family
Introduction
Chinese Historical Society of America Museum and Learning Center in San Francisco has invited mixed media and installation artist Flo Oy Wong to present her work in their Frank Yick Gallery beginning January 10th and continuing through April 9, 2006.
Known for her art about family and community, Wong has assembled her familiar Oakland Chinatown renderings, iconic rice sack pieces, book art and a new series of monoprints to tell the story of her father’s influence on her work. Curated by artist Lenore Chinn this project also brings together Wong's creative siblings, Li Keng, Lai Wah, Nellie and William, to tell the poignant story of their Oakland Chinatown roots, family history and journey of resilience and survival.
Working closely with CHSA Visual Arts Committee representative Irene Poon Andersen and exhibitions coordinator, Marisa Louie, Wong and Chinn have selected works that would fit into CHSA's visual art programming goals for community outreach and education.
