Talk Story:
An American Family exhibition

Whispers of the Past

“A rich and inspiring installation – beautifully presented. Your father’s story is honored and moving – such a fine circle of life from tragedy to the triumph of your artistic expression!”

With respect,
Diana

“The simplicity of these stories is but a reflection of the profound insights into Asian American lives. I really admire this exhibition for bringing to my attention the roots of Asian Americans in this strange and wondrous land of opportunities. I wish that this exhibition would grow and continue to be widely praised by all Americans.”

Chan Bao Khan

“I grew up in the Midwest. Your story is inspiring and so different from my life. Thank you.”

Letha Newberry Woodring

“Thank you for such an inspiring exhibit . . .
It truly reached the depths of my soul.
Ingenious. Emotional. Creative. Moving.

“I love how you expressed your childhood through art. Your story is one that I will not forget. The unique rice sacks are amazing and I love what they represent.”

In January 2006, I opened in a solo show entitled Talk Story at the Chinese Historical Society of America.

This image is of my father, Gee Seow Hong, when he was 17, a new immigrant to the United States of America.

These are some of my Oakland Chinatown graphite pencil drawings and new artist books about my family’s immigration history.

These are monoprints about my father, Gee Seow Hong.  I told the story of his shooting, which took place some sixty-five plus years ago.

These rice sacks represent siblings in my family.
